Preschool Experience

Ms. Christy’s Discovery Garden

This natural outdoor playscape and garden area is landscaped with a wooden bridge and dry streambed, tree stumps and fallen logs for children to climb on, an outdoor stage, a butterfly hutch, a grassy area for free play, and multiple vegetable gardens and flower beds. This unique play area and science garden was built in memory of beloved preschool teacher Christy Lawrence.

Themed Weeks

Preschoolers welcome special visitors to campus for Community Helpers Week and Music Week each year. Community helpers, such as DEMCO linemen, doctors and dentists, the Baton Rouge Mounted Police (and their horses), and firefighters come to campus so the children can see what they look like and learn how they help us. Music Week guests are often parents, other family members, or faculty and staff with special musical talents and interests to share with students.

Special Events

The “Storybook Character Parade” is an annual treat for the Pre-Kindergarten class. Students come to school dressed as their favorite book characters. This event, which coincides with the Preschool Fall Scholastic Book Fair, promotes reading. Other not-to-be missed special events include Dr. Seuss Day, the Preschool Mardi Gras Parade, the Halloween Carnival, and the Spring Egg Hunt.

Preschool Clinic

The preschool is staffed full time with registered nurses who perform basic first aid and treat illnesses and injuries as needed during school hours, administer medication in compliance with our medication policy, perform student screenings, and track health maintenance for students with chronic illnesses.

Spanish Language Lessons

Spanish lessons provided by The Spanish Class are available as an extra-curricular activity during the regular school day.
